Corona pandemic – Swiss government decides on liquidity support for mid-caps – volume CHF 40 bn

As a consequence of the corona pandemic, the Federal Government in Switzerland adopted an emergency ordinance on 25.03.2020 to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The Decree enters into force today, 26.03.2020.

It concerns liquidity support for Swiss SMEs, which is provided with federal funds in the form of loans and guarantees. The total volume of this aid is to be up to CHF 40 billion.

In contrast to Germany, where the federally owned KfW is liable for loans of up to 90%, these loans are fully, 100%, guaranteed by the Confederation up to an amount of CHF 500,000 for rapid liquidity assistance. No interest or fees are charged on these loans.

SMEs can apply for such loans online via their house banks. These promise a very fast credit decision, preferably on the same day.
